2006. Sovietcams.
Solution: IDAMAS, powered  SmartWeb.

The Agat 18 is a small cheap all plastic Soviet-made half frame 35mm camera of dubious quality.  The glass triplet lens is actually quite sharp for such a low end camera, but the inferior (mono) coating makes it very prone to flaring. Couple this with light leak problems and it seems to fall more into the "toy camera" realm than that of a serious camera, but it is still rather fun to shoot.  The camera is totally manual, though not in the typical sense, since it works only in a "mechanical program mode" were you first set the film speed (16-250 ASA) and then just use the "sunny-16" icons on the front dial.  The camera adjusts both aperture and shutter speed (1/30-1/250) for a perfect exposure (it actually works quite well).  The 28mm lens is scale focused from .9m-infinity.  The camera is one of the smallest and definitely the lightest half frame 35mm cameras that you can buy [2].

Released in 1983 only. The very early Agat-18 cameras are quite interesting, while bearing "MMZ" logotype on the lens frontplate, instead of usual "Vileika" one. The camera body has more smoother covering (see camera #3000936). Unfortunately another known Agat-18 MMZ camera #3001073 has no label with lens markings, but is almost identical to #3000936.

Camera opposite from Ilya Stolyar (USA) collection.

Agat-18 (MMZ)  #3000936.

Released in 1984-1985. Seems to be an earliest version with "VILEIKA" logo already. These cameras have yellow, ornage or red (less common) shutter disk. The shutter release knob (painted the same colour as mentioned disk) is not threaded yet to accept a cable release. Can be found with black or gray (very uncommon) body.

Camera from Viktor Suglob (Belarus) collection.

Agat-18 (Vileika)  #5087943.

Other possible versions of Agat-18 camera:

1. The most common (black - yellow) version of cheap, but effective BeLomo camera. Already Vileika markings on the lens frontplate (see camera #6181264).
2. Rare export version (black - yellow). Both the name of the camera and lens appear in Roman, and "made in USSR" is written on the back side (see camera #5738612).
3. Less common (black - orange) version of the camera (see camera #5249618).
4. Uncommon (black - red) version of the camera (see camera #1938831).
5. Even more uncommon (grey - red) version of particular camera (see camera #8513759).
